Once we had settled into our apartment we got freshened up and made our way out to find some lunch. We had learned already that English was not widely spoken and each time we ventured out it was a challenge we graciously accepted. We had also learned that the Spanish typically eat a light breakfast, a very big lunch and a small dinner - customs we LOVED from the moment we arrived.

We set out for lunch and came upon a lovely restaurant called Recycle Bicyclo. The kitchen wouldn’t open for another 20 minutes so we ordered a pitcher of sangria, sat on the patio and drank under the Spanish sun. Lunch was an excellent beginning to our culinary experience in Spain as we feasted on delicious Mediterranean burritos. After a couple hours under the sun, a pitcher on sangria later, and a belly full of delicious food, it was time for a siesta and what a glorious siesta it was! The white linen sheets of our bed and the curtains in our room blowing gently in the wind from the open door on our bedroom terrace couldn’t have made the idea of a mid afternoon rest more appealing. We fell asleep to the sound of church bells in the distance and when we woke it was nearly 8 at night. Though we knew it was customary to eat dinner late, we hadn’t expected to step out on the streets that late and see that supper hour was only just beginning.
